Erawan National Park is home to Thailand’s most photographed waterfall, a seven-tiered cascade that climbs nearly two kilometres up a forested limestone hillside, with a turquoise, mineral-rich pool at almost every level. Unlike the multi-day mountain treks further north, this is a single, satisfying day walk — accessible enough for families and casual trekkers, but long and varied enough to feel like a genuine outing rather than a quick photo stop.

The trail follows the stream upward through dense limestone forest, home to resident long-tailed macaques, past pools that range from shallow wading spots near the base to a demanding rock scramble at the seventh and final tier. Swimming is very much part of the experience here — several of the mid-level pools are calm and shallow enough for a proper swim, and Tripcamps builds swim stops into the day rather than rushing straight to the top.

Erawan’s proximity to Bangkok — roughly 3 hours by road, plus a short additional drive from Kanchanaburi — makes it one of the most accessible treks in the Tripcamps Thailand collection, suitable as a standalone day trip or as an easy add-on before or after a Kanchanaburi visit. The falls run year-round, though flow is strongest just after the monsoon in November and December, while the dry season offers the clearest pools for swimming.

Highlights

  • All seven tiers of Erawan Falls, each with its own turquoise pool
  • Swimming stops at several of the lower and middle tiers
  • Limestone forest trail with resident macaques
  • An easy day trip from Bangkok via Kanchanaburi

A full day climbing the marked trail alongside Erawan Falls, stopping to swim at several of the seven tiers, before returning to Kanchanaburi by early evening.

How to Reach

Erawan National Park is about 1.5 hours' drive from Kanchanaburi town, itself roughly 3 hours from Bangkok by road or train, making this an achievable day trip or overnight add-on from the capital.

Permits & Essentials

A national park entry fee is payable at the gate; swimwear is worth carrying, as swimming is a highlight at several tiers, and the topmost tiers require a scramble over wet rock.
