Namunukula — literally “nine peaks” in Sinhala, though the ridge is more commonly described as having seven distinct summits — is the high point of Uva Province, and one of the quietest full-day treks within easy reach of Ella. Where Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak see a steady stream of visitors most mornings, Namunukula’s longer distance and greater elevation gain keep it firmly off the standard hill-country circuit.

The trail climbs steadily from the village at its base through forest and increasingly open ridgeline, with most day treks reaching the first two or three of the seven linked peaks rather than attempting the full traverse. From the highest point reached, views stretch out toward Ella and Badulla in one direction and down toward the eastern lowlands in the other — a genuinely wide panorama that rivals better-known viewpoints in the region without the crowds.

This is the trek Tripcamps recommends for visitors who’ve already covered Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak and want a longer, quieter full-day option in the same area. Limited signage on the upper sections makes a local guide a sensible addition rather than a strict requirement. January through April offers the clearest ridge views.
